New England Villages is a residential community established for developmentally challenged adults. In addition to residential accommodations, it contains a complete array of both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities for use by the residents. The community is located approximately a quarter mile from the main highway, and in 1994 it was decided to construct a bicycle/walking path adjacent to the quarter mile entry drive. The seven-foot wide asphalt path meanders through woodlands, crosses wetlands in one location, and is protected from the entry drive with rustic wood fencing. There are brick-surfaced seating areas located near both ends of the path to allow residents to rest and enjoy the wooded surroundings. |
